In the FINO Lab’s first Tiger-Tide collaboration with our friendly rivals in Tuscaloosa, our paper with Prof. Adam Hauser’s group at the University of Alabama is out in the Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials. Using the Auburn tandem accelerator, we performed Rutherford backscattering measurements for Co2Fe(Ti0.5Al0.5) epitaxial films that the Hauser group grew by off-axis sputter beam epitaxy. These materials are magnetic Heusler alloys that offer promise for use in data storage and spintronic devices due to the low damping parameter and high saturation magnetization. Our contributions to the work were supported by our NSF Division of Materials Research grant, NSF-DMR-1809847.
