In a new direction for the FINO Lab, a paper led by Bhavesh Ramkorun through our collaboration with Profs. Ed Thomas and Saikat Chakraborty Thakur is out in Applied Physics Letters. This work combines the dusty plasma physics research in their group with the oxide materials synthesis in ours for a cool new technique to…Continue Reading Paper on TiO2 Nanoparticle Synthesis by Dusty Plasma Published in Applied Physics Letters
Congratulations to Patrick Gemperline for Winning the DOE SCGSR Fellowship!
FINO Lab Ph.D. student Patrick Gemperline has been selected as one of 44 outstanding graduate students in the nation by the Department of Energy’s Office of Science Graduate Student Research or SCGSR Program! Patrick will be working at the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences at Oak Ridge National Lab during the spring semester with this…Continue Reading Congratulations to Patrick Gemperline for Winning the DOE SCGSR Fellowship!
Congratulations to Dr. Rajendra Paudel for Defending His Ph.D!
Congratulations Rajendra! His Ph.D. thesis focused on the synthesis of LaFeO3 heterostructures by MBE for use as oxygen evolution reduction catalysts. Through collaborations with Dr. Byron Farnum’s lab group he showed that LaFeO3/LaNiO3 heterostructures exhibit greater catalytic performance than either material by itself due to the favorable band alignment at the interface. Rajendra is starting…Continue Reading Congratulations to Dr. Rajendra Paudel for Defending His Ph.D!
Congratulations to Miles Blanchet and Suresh Thapa!
Suresh and Miles are the first two FINO Lab Ph.D. graduates! Both defended their dissertations over the last week and did a great job. Miles’ dissertation is entitled “Synthesis and Characterization of Mn-based Spinels Grown by Molecular Beam Epitaxy.” He has written two first author papers and has another in preparation on Mn spinels for…Continue Reading Congratulations to Miles Blanchet and Suresh Thapa!
Suresh Thapa Wins Alabama EPSCOR Graduate Research Fellowship
Congrats to Suresh Thapa for winning the Alabama EPSCOR Graduate Research Scholars fellowship! Our lab is funded by an Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Young Investigator grant that was the first award made with support from the Defense EPSCOR program. Through that award, Suresh is now the first graduate student in Alabama history to receive the GRSP…Continue Reading Suresh Thapa Wins Alabama EPSCOR Graduate Research Fellowship
