We are thrilled to have won a Department of Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (DEPSCoR) grant for $598k in collaboration with Prof. Wencan Jin’s group to examine interfaces between complex oxide films grown in our MBE and 2D materials. Dr. Jin will serve as PI on the project entitled “Studying Magnetoelectric Coupling in…Continue Reading FINO Lab Wins DEPSCoR Research Collaboration Grant
Collaborative Paper on Ga2O3 Films Published in Applied Physics Letters
A collaborative paper led by Arka Sardar in Prof. Sarit Dhar’s group is out in Applied Physics Letters. This work focuses on ion implantation of Si into Ga2O3 films grown by molecular beam epitaxy at Air Force Research Lab. The results showed that by performing ion implantation at high temperatures defects in the films could…Continue Reading Collaborative Paper on Ga2O3 Films Published in Applied Physics Letters
Paper on Li Intercolation in CuCrO2 Published in ChemElectroChem
Our collaborative paper with Prof. Byron Farnum’s group has been published in ChemElectroChem. Congratulations to recent Auburn chemistry graduate Dr. Amanda Chown on the lead author paper! In this work, delafossite CuCrO2 was synthesized by hydrothermal growth and characterized by Rajendra Paudel using our XPS capablities to examine the Cr and Cu valence states before…Continue Reading Paper on Li Intercolation in CuCrO2 Published in ChemElectroChem
Congratulations to Patrick Gemperline for Winning the DOE SCGSR Fellowship!
FINO Lab Ph.D. student Patrick Gemperline has been selected as one of 44 outstanding graduate students in the nation by the Department of Energy’s Office of Science Graduate Student Research or SCGSR Program! Patrick will be working at the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences at Oak Ridge National Lab during the spring semester with this…Continue Reading Congratulations to Patrick Gemperline for Winning the DOE SCGSR Fellowship!
Postdoc Position Available
Update: The position has been filled. We have an opening for a postdoctoral research position in the synthesis of complex oxide thin films using hybrid molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The project focuses on in situ studies of 3d and 5d transition metal oxides both at Auburn and at Argonne National Laboratory. Collaborative studies at Brookhaven…Continue Reading Postdoc Position Available
SrNbO3-BaSnO3 Paper Published in ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces
Another day, another paper from Suresh Thapa! This paper in ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces comes through a collaboration with Boris Kiefer and Sharad Mahatara at New Mexico State University where we have combined theory and experiment to examine the BaSnO3/SrNbO3 interface as a 2D electronic system. Sharad and Suresh deserve credit for getting this…Continue Reading SrNbO3-BaSnO3 Paper Published in ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces
Paper on SrNbO3 Film Synthesis Published in APL Materials
Our paper on the growth of SrNbO3 by hybrid molecular beam epitaxy is out in APL Materials today. This work was led by former student Suresh Thapa as part of his Ph.D. and is the first demonstration of SrNbO3 by MBE. Suresh used a new kind of metal-organic precursor to grow these materials, which are very promising…Continue Reading Paper on SrNbO3 Film Synthesis Published in APL Materials
FINO Lab Receives DOE Laboratory Partnership Funding
Our lab will be starting a new project thanks to $750k in research funding from the Department of Energy EPSCoR Laboratory Partnership program in collaboration with Prof. Wencan Jin. The project focuses on the synthesis of 3d and 5d transition metal oxides for renewable energy and spintronic applications with in situ X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy…Continue Reading FINO Lab Receives DOE Laboratory Partnership Funding
Congratulations to Dr. Rajendra Paudel for Defending His Ph.D!
Congratulations Rajendra! His Ph.D. thesis focused on the synthesis of LaFeO3 heterostructures by MBE for use as oxygen evolution reduction catalysts. Through collaborations with Dr. Byron Farnum’s lab group he showed that LaFeO3/LaNiO3 heterostructures exhibit greater catalytic performance than either material by itself due to the favorable band alignment at the interface. Rajendra is starting…Continue Reading Congratulations to Dr. Rajendra Paudel for Defending His Ph.D!
